Our names are Rachel and John and we have a small farm in Kilkenny. We have 3 daughters and 3 fabulous furry family members that are the heart of our home.
Recently, we were delighted to have a big litter of Golden Retriever puppies from one of our girls and with a lot of thought we decided to advertise our puppies on PetBond. I contacted Pet Bond in early May of this year about looking to foster a dog. From the outset Tim Kirby was reassuring and practical with suggestions. He understood our needs and was encouraging but not too persuasive. We have been so fortunate to find our dog Buddy. As my eleven year old son describes him, he is the ultimate dog! I cannot remember what life was like at home before we had Buddy and he is so good we decided to keep him as our forever dog rather than just fostering him. Thank you so much to Petbond for putting us in contact with the breeders of Toby, our new English Springer Spaniel.
We had heard horrible stories about puppy farms which are far too prevalent in Ireland due to light sentences when compared with the UK, so we wanted to make sure we did not inadvertently end up getting a puppy from such farms or worse still a stolen pet. When we heard Tim Kirby speak on 2FM about his new foundation to help people like us find puppies from reputable breeders - we signed up right away. After a short interview to assess we were capable of looking after a dog and to help us figure out what breed would suit us best Tim added us to his mailing list. We had hoped to find a rescue dog that would suit our home but it wasn't to be as we have a young child and quite often rescue dogs need a little more care and a calmer new home.
But after a couple months waiting we got an 'Can we live with you? ' email from Tim with a chance to adopt Toby. The breeders Petbond had vetted were such lovely people and when we spoke and after a little screening process they were happy we would take good care of Toby. You could tell Toby was very well looked after by the breeder as he was very healthy, chipped, part-vaccinated, well socialised and confident when we got him. The last thing the breeder asked was: 'If for any reason, anytime in the future you cannot take care of him - promise me you will call me, and I will gladly take him back - I never want him to go to a pound'. This is the kind of breeder you want to get a puppy from! We have Toby now almost a week and he is thriving already and already part of the family. It was so worth the wait to find such a happy healthy puppy.
I would recommend Petbond to anyone looking for a pet, - such a fantastic service to man and beast! I must go now and watch the Petbond Instagram Live behavioural training tips video....
